Choosing a Care Home

Friday, May 17th, 2013

Beginning your Journey

Reaching the stage where a loved one needs some formal assistance, support or care is never easy.

A loss of independence is felt to be the very last resort and one that must not be taken lightly.  Often the wishes of parents, children, siblings and indeed friends come into the equation.

However, trying to solely mange on your own is not an ideal option; guidance and support can really help during these times.

Fantastic care homes still do exist and in fact can add years on to the lives of your loved one.  Often a family member may visit the prospective home initially then perhaps book their loved one in for any from a long weekend as a trial stay.

 Where to start?

Many seniors are able to live independently in their own home, however a time could come when they become isolated from their community and feel they are increasingly unable to cope.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is a great place to start your research as CQC are the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England.  They ensure the care of those institutions meets the national standards of quality and safety.

Regular inspections are carried out to ensure care providers are meeting the required standards.

If you wish to see Fairfield House’s latest inspection report please enquire at reception or call 01297 443 513.

 What next?

There is an abundance of homes available each with a difference perspective.  Often it is good to view a few homes to aid your research.

Take time to think of some questions to use as a checklist to enable you to find out as much as possible from the home.

For example is location important to you, transport links?  What facilities are nearby – shops, parks, places of worship?

You may also want to know whether there is a choice of accommodation options and disabled access.

Fairfield House – A Home with a View

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

Set on a tranquil hillside overlooking the peaceful seaside town of Lyme Regis, Fairfield House is very much “a home with a view”.

Originally an early Victorian mansion, the house has been sympathically converted into a loving, relaxed and comfortable home, where residents can enjoy the highest standard of senior living in a beautiful location.

Stunning views over the seaside town of Lyme Regis follows the back drop of the rolling West Dorset hills providing the perfect canvas for our popular photography club!

Our residents enjoy trips out to Lyme Regis Cobb and Quay, which we visit regulary in our specially adapted minibus.  Lyme Regis dates back to the 14th century and is host to an abundance of quaint shops, art galleries and restaurants.  The historic town is built around the River Lym and boasts a beautifully restored watermill and magnificent naval architecture.
